Photon Counting Detectors or Medical Imaging and Industrial Applications

Photon Counting is an emerging X-ray imaging technology with applications in medicine, industrial non-destructive testing, and security screening.  The core of this technology are semiconductor detectors that directly convert x-ray signals to electrical signals, achieving significant advantages that include

  • Improved Image Quality

  • Reduced Radiation Dose

  • Selective Imaging of Specific Materials

  • Dynamic Imaging

CapeSym offers photon counting detectors based on CdTe.  CdTe crystals are grown by the THM method in our facilities in Massachusetts USA.  We have in place an extensive production line for large scale commercial production of CdTe substrates.   CdTe photon counting detectors are fabricated from our substrates to meet customer’s ASIC  pixel design requirements.  In-house and in collaboration with our partners we can produce detectors with pixel sizes as small as 50 microns.

CdTe Substrate Properties:

Resistivity : 1-3 x 109 ohm-cm

(μτ)e : 1-3 x 10-3

  • CdTe/CZT Substrates with Custom Pixel Patterns

  • Available in 1-, 2-, and 3-mm Thicknesses

  • Excellent Radiation Response

  • Medipix/Timepix-Ready
